Do you have some extra time and would like to help animals in need? Critter Care has volunteering opportunities available.
Foster Homes (canine and feline)
Overview: A foster home is a temporary home in which our dogs/puppies and cats/kittens can live like they are supposed to live - as our companions - until they are adopted. Foster homes provide a safe and loving environment for animals in our care that are either waiting for their new families to find them or while on any additional days of medication.
After picking up the companion from Critter Care Rescue, it will be your responsibility to give them a clean and comfortable place to stay. Any medications will be administered. By keeping their quarters clean, we are keeping the animals healthier. Most of our adoptions occur at our shelter but occasionally the potential adopters will be asked to view the animal at the foster residence, depending on our schedules and those of our foster families. Potential adopters shall be escorted to the foster home by a representative of Critter Care and all adoption procedures will be carried out by this representative. Fosters are not to attempt to place an animal in their care unless the potential adopter has been screened and approved by Critter Care and have authorization to do so.
Foster Home duties consist of:
- Providing a safe place to stay while you are out
- Providing fresh food and water. We will provide the food.
- Being available, if the need arrises, to a potential family to come and meet your foster animal.
- Have the ability to answer specific questions pertaining to the animal's behavior and temperament while under your care.
What we look for in a foster home:
We look for people who love to interact with animals and truly understand that you are helping to save their lives. We also look for persons that are patient and understanding when dealing with a homeless animal. Many of our rescues are confused, scared and need lots of love and attention. Our fosterer's have all kinds of schedules and busy lives, but they enjoy the theraputic feeling they get when they help shape the life of a rescue. We like to call this a "puppy fix" or "kitty fix". Sometimes they help us more than we help them!!!!
